Stingers upset defending CIS women's cage champions

Forward Shanica Baker scored 18 points and hauled in 13 rebounds to lead the Concordia Stingers women's basketball team to a 70-63 victory over the Windsor Lancers in preseason action tonight.

Baker is a transfer student from University of Tampa. The Ajax, Ont. native has two years of eligibility remaining with the Stingers. In 35 minutes of play, she went eight of 15 from the field and was perfect on two free throw attempts.

Also stepping up for the Stingers was fourth-year forward Richelle Gregoire who had 17 points and five rebounds.

It was a huge win for new head coach Tenicha Gittens and the Stingers as Windsor is the five-time defending CIS national champion.The Lancers came into the game with a 2-0 win-loss record while the Stingers split their first two games of the year.

Concordia will host another preseason game next Friday, Oct. 23 when the Waterloo Warriors visit Montreal. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
