Tchida named RSEQ Player of the Year, Umuhoza earns Rookie of the Year honours

Serena Tchida was named RSEQ Player of the Year after a dominant regular season that saw her finish atop the conference scoring race, averaging 17.6 points per game. She also led the RSEQ in rebounding with 10.7 boards per contest, underlining her consistency and versatility on both ends of the floor. The Stingers forward recorded nine double-doubles and delivered a career-best performance on Jan. 31 against the UQAM Citadins women's basketball, exploding for 37 points.

In addition to Player of the Year honours, Tchida was named an RSEQ First Team All-Star.

Jeannette Umuhoza, meanwhile, took home Rookie of the Year recognition following an impressive debut campaign. The first-year psychology student from Gatineau, Quebec, announced her arrival in emphatic fashion, pouring in 22 points in her regular season debut.

She quickly carved out a key role in the Stingers’ rotation, earning 10 starts — including each of the final eight games of the season. Umuhoza averaged 7.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, reaching double figures in four contests during her rookie year. She was also named to the RSEQ All-Rookie Team.

Victoria Lawrence earned Second Team All-Star honours, while Deymi Morisseau joined Umuhoza on the All-Rookie Team, capping off a strong collective showing for Concordia.

Beyond the numbers, Umuhoza established herself as a steady two-way presence, bringing energy, defensive intensity and poise well beyond her years — a sign of even bigger things ahead for the Stingers.
