The Concordia Stingers women’s basketball team earned a split in their home-and-home series with the Laval Rouge et Or, highlighted by a statement win over the top-ranked team in Quebec on Saturday in Montreal.
Laval entered the weekend with a 9–1 record and a No. 8 national ranking in U Sports. The Rouge et Or took the first meeting on Thursday night in Quebec City, defeating the Stingers 88–57. Serena Tchida led Concordia in the loss with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Saturday was a different story at Concordia. The Stingers delivered a complete team performance to upset Laval 74-66, with multiple players contributing on both ends of the floor. Tchida recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Victoria Lawrence matched her with 17 points of her own. Rookie Jeannette Umuhoza added 14 points.
With the split, Concordia improves to 4–6 on the season. The Stingers return to action in Lennoxville on Thursday, Jan. 29, when they travel to Bishop’s at 6 p.m.
