LB Samuel Brodrique's arrival is an early Christmas gift

The Concordia Stingers are pleased to announce Samuel Brodrique, a highly-rated Cégep linebacker from Champlain College, Lennoxville, has committed to the program.

“It’s like Christmas came early,” said Stingers defensive co-ordinator Patrick Donovan. “He’s a total package when it comes to linebackers. He’s a student of the game, he plays the run well and he plays the pass well. He’s fast. He’s physical. He’s a difference-maker.”

Brodrique is equally enthusiastic about joining the Stingers.

“I’m very excited to come to Concordia and play for these coaches,” he said. “It’s the best place for me to progress as a football player and with school. Mickey (Donovan) and Pat (Donovan) were both linebackers so this is the best place to be when you play my position.

“The coaches have done a lot with this program. I like the way they are with their players and I like the way they talk about their players.”

Brodrique is finishing up his third season with the Champlain Cougars who wrapped up regular season play on the weekend with a perfect 9-0 win-loss record. He has 39 solo tackles, 15 assists, four sacks and two interceptions.

With the Cougars, the Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, Que. native won the Bol d’Or championship in 2013 and went to the final in 2014. This year, Champlain has a bye through the first round of the playoffs and will host a semifinal game on Nov. 7.

Before joining the Cougars, Brodrique played high school football at Curé Antoine-Labelle and with the Wildcats - Laurentides-Lanaudiere.

The six-foot-two, 220-pound linebacker will join the Stingers family in January.
