Two members of the Concordia Stingers football team have been invited to the 2006 CFL evaluation camp which will be held March 23-25 in Oakville, Ont.
All-Canadian cornerback Modibo Sidibe and Junior Bishop, a versatile linebacker/halfback, will be among the 48 players scouts and coaches put through the paces. The camp gives the nine CFL teams a close look at the top players available for the Canadian college draft which will take place April 20.
Sidibe, a native of Buffalo, N.Y., came to the Stingers after two years (2002 and 2003) at Syracuse University with the Orangemen. He suited up for Concordia in 2004 and had an immediate impact in the Quebec conference. He had 14 solo tackles, six assists and one interception and was a Quebec all-star. This past fall, he was an all-star and a first team CIS all-Canadian. His banner season featured 19 solo tackles, two assists and five interceptions.
The five-foot-11 back has many assets that appeal to the professional teams. He is very fast. He has been clocked at 4.56 in the 40-yard sprint. He is also very athletic and smart. He was an honor student at Syracuse.
Many people consider Sidibe the best defensive back in Canadian university football.
Bishop, who calls Scarborough, Ont. home, has played with the Stingers four seasons. He has played both linebacker and defensive halfback. The CFL teams will likely consider him free safety material. He is also respected for his speed. His 40 time is 4.64.
In 2005, Bishop, who checks in at six foot one and 190 pounds, played seven games at halfback, picking up eight solo tackles, six assists and three interceptions.
During their time at the CFL camp, Sidibe and Bishop will undergo medicals, do aptitude tests and go through several standard football tests - bench press, flexibility test, 40-yard sprint, vertical jump, standing jump, 20-yard T test and group drills.
