Two members of the Concordia Stingers football team were honoured by the RSEQ for their exceptional play in a 23-22 victory over the Sherbrooke Vert & Or last week.
Third-year running back Jean-Guy Rimpel was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week. He carried the ball 28 times for 171 yards and a touchdown. He averaged an impressive 6.1 yards a carry. Rimpel was the top offensive threat in the RSEQ in Week 2 and rushed for more than double the yards of his closest rival.
Second-year kicker Andrew Stevens was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. He connected on a 23-yard field goal on the last play of the game to give Concordia the victory over the Vert & Or. He had a perfect night, going five for five on field goal attempts. He was good from 14, 23, 24, 35 and 44 yards on the night. With a kickoff single to open the game and a convert, Andrews accounted for 17 of Concordia’s 23 points in the game.
Rimpel and Stevens were instrumental in securing a historic victory for the Stingers who won for the first time at Stade de l'Université de Sherbrooke since the Vert & Or revived their football program in 2003.
