The Stingers defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 73-64 last Sunday in women’s basketball action, giving them a perfect 3-0 win-loss record and the championship title at the second annual Concordia Classic Tournament.
Over the course of the three-day tournament, the Stingers also defeated the UPEI Panthers 60-53 and the Algoma Thunderbirds 80-38.
Concordia’s Ashley Moss was the tournament MVP. The dominating forward posted double-doubles in two of the three games, including the final versus Toronto when she scored 10 points and hauled in 15 rebounds.
Stinger guards Caroline Task and Jazlin Barker were named to the tournament all-star team.
On the men’s side of the competition, the Stingers finished in second place with a 2-1 record. Concordia defeated the Regina Cougars 92-74 and the York Lions 85-80. They were edged out 72-70 by the Dalhousie Tigers.
Guard Jonathan Koud and veteran forward Ken Beaulieu were named to the all-star team.
