Mickey Donovan makes jump to CFL coaching

The Concordia Stingers family would like to wish Mickey Donovan the best of luck as he takes on new challenges as special teams co-ordinator with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.

Donovan was introduced as the head coach of the Concordia football program on Feb. 11, 2014. In four seasons with the Stingers he compiled a 16-15 win-loss record in RSEQ regular season play and a 19-19 record overall. He was named the Quebec conference’s Coach of the Year in his first season.

The Laconia, N.H. native’s coaching career started with an internship at the University of New Hampshire in 2006. Donovan joined the Western Mustangs in 2007 to coach linebackers. During his four years with the Mustangs, he handled special teams, the defensive front seven and served as the team's recruiting co-ordinator. In November of 2011, Donovan joined the McGill Redmen program as assistant head coach and defensive co-ordinator.

Donovan was a guest coach at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ training camp in 2011 and with the Toronto Argonauts in 2013.

Stingers assistant head coach and defensive co-ordinator Patrick Donovan will assume the leadership duties for the Concordia football team on an interim basis. The search for a new head coach will get under way shortly.
