Stingers football open season with 14-0 loss at Laval

The Concordia Stingers opened their 2026 football season Thursday night in Quebec City, falling 14-0 to the Laval Rouge et Or.

Despite the shutout, the Stingers defence turned in a strong performance, holding Laval to just 278 total yards of offence.

The game was statistically close throughout. Laval held a narrow edge in first downs, 16-14, while the Rouge et Or also won the turnover battle 1-0.

Laval scored the game's only touchdown on a 9-yard run by Ouellette on a fake field goal, giving the Rouge et Or a 7-0 lead. The Rouge et Or scored a field goal and two two-point safeties.

Quarterback Glenn Valentine completed 14 of 26 passes for 162 yards and one interception in his first start with the Stingers.

Mamadi Kaba led Concordia's receivers with three catches for 51 yards. Defensively, Duke transfer Kenzy Paul had 7 tackles, and so did fellow linebacker Michael Aoun.

The Stingers will now turn their attention to their home opener, welcoming the Montreal Carabins to Concordia Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
