Dumont, Turcotte – Subway Athletes of the Week

Coralie Dumont of the women’s basketball team and Marc-Antoine Turcotte of the men’s hockey team have been named the Subway-Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 11.

Dumont, a first-year forward with the Stingers, had an exceptional performance in Saturday’s epic battle with the No. 4-ranked McGill Martlets. With 16 points and seven rebounds she led Concordia to a 67-62 victory over the crosstown rivals. Her two-point basket as the final seconds were ticking off the clock sealed the victory.

A 21-year-old native of Boucherville, Que., Dumont is studying Marketing at Concordia.

Turcotte, a second-year goaltender, backstopped the Stingers to two big victories over top opponents on the weekend. On Friday, he played 65 minutes turning away 29 of 32 shots in regulation and overtime play. Then he shut down all three McGill Redmen shooters in a shootout. His performance gave Concordia a 4-3 victory in the annual Corey Cup clash versus the No. 4-ranked Redmen.

The following day, he turned away 25 of 26 shots in 57 minutes to help Concordia defeat the Carleton Ravens. The wins locked down third place in the 10-team OUA East conference.

The 22-year-old athlete from Châteauguay, Que., is an Independent Studies student.
