Basketball teams go pink at Shoot for the Cure games

The Concordia Stingers men's and women's basketball teams will host their annual Shoot for the Cure doubleheader on Thursday evening when the Bishop's Gaiters will be the visitors.

The Shoot for the Cure initiative began more than 10 years ago when the U SPORTS Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) launched the fundraiser. Since then all 47 basketball schools have adopted the campaign and many have support from multiple teams at their universities.

Since its inception the U SPORTS Shoot for the Cure campaign has been an overwhelming success with approximately about $1 million in donations.

To help the Stingers raise awareness, Euronda Stoute has agreed to serve as an honorary coach. She is a breast cancer survivor who will do a ceremonial jump ball and join the women’s team on its bench for the game.

At the event, the Stingers will collect donations, and Shoot for the Cure T-shirts will be available for $10. Proceeds from the initiatives will go to the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.

This is the first chance to see Concordia in action in the new year. The Stingers swept the Gaiters on Nov. 24 in a couple of high scoring, exciting games.

The women tip off at 6 p.m. and the men’s game gets under way at 8 p.m.
