Myriam Leclerc of the women's basketball team and Ricardo Monge of the men's basketball team have been named the Subway-Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 20.
Leclerc, a rookie guard, stood out in her team’s two games with the McGill Martlets last week. She scored 26 points and had four rebounds in a 63-58 loss at home last Thursday. She was instrumental in helping her team rebound in the rematch two days later at McGill. She led the team to a 59-47 victory, scoring 18 points. She also had six rebounds and six assists. Leclerc is currently the leading scorer in the Quebec conference with an average of 18.3 points a game.
A 20-year-old native of St. Roch de Richelieu, Que., Leclerc is an Accounting student at Concordia.
Monge, a fifth-year guard and team captain, was instrumental in leading Concordia to a sweep of the McGill Redmen. Last Thursday he had 22 points, six rebounds and 10 assists to pace the Stingers to an 86-69 victory. When the teams met a couple of nights later at McGill in the inaugural George Lengvari Cup showdown, he was dominant again. This time he had 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in a 69-61 win.
The 24-year-old student from Gatineau, Que., is working towards a MSc in Finance at Concordia.
