The Concordia Stingers football program is pleased to announce it will hold a pro day for offensive lineman Maurice Simba on Tuesday, March 12 at Soccerplexe Catalogna in Lachine, Que.
Simba, who checks in at six-foot-eight and 320 pounds, has drawn the attention of professional scouts from both sides of the border over the last couple of years.
He was ranked No. 11 overall and the No. 1 offensive line prospect from a Canadian university by the CFL scouts and general managers last December.
Simba’s stock rose considerably after he participated in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. on Jan. 19. There he was a first team lineman and he was selected by head coach Mike Tice as one of the captains of the National Team.
The fourth-year Leisure Sciences student originally from Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo is a two-time RSEQ all-star, and in 2017 he was a U SPORTS second team all-Canadian. Simba also participated in the 2018 East-West all-star showcase last May in Quebec City.
Paperwork has been filed with the NFL and the Concordia pro day is on the league’s official list. Scouts from the NFL and CFL will see Simba go through a number of physical tests and linemen specific drills.
While the Stingers have attracted the interest of NFL scouts in the past, this is the first time they will hold a pro day.
The New York Giants sent Jim Trimble to Concordia evaluate offensive lineman Nick Benjamin in 1985.
Cornerback Mark Montreuil was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the seventh round, 237th overall, in 1995. He went on to play three years in the NFL.
The Miami Dolphins worked out fullback Farell Duclair and receiver Denis Montana in 1995. The latter eventually signed with the Houston Oilers and attended their camp.
Receiver Sylvain Girard (Cleveland Browns), punter Burke Dales (Pittsburgh Steelers), defensive tackle Sammy Taulealea (Dallas Cowboys), offensive lineman Kristian Matte (Houston Texans) all signed as free agents and attended NFL camps.Linebacker Cory Greenwood also signed a free agent contract in the NFL in 2010 and went on to play three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The NFL draft is scheduled to take place April 25-27 in Nashville, Tenn., while the CFL draft will be held May 2.
