RSEQ all-star football team features five members of Stingers

With the third all-star honour of his university career, veteran safety Khadeem Pierre heads a list of five Concordia Stingers named to the conference all-star team announced today by the RSEQ.

Also recognized by the RSEQ are defensive backs Derek Achaempong and Ahmadou Boubacar, quarterback Olivier Roy and receiver Jaylan Greaves.

Playing on the corner Pierre, originally from Ottawa, was an all-star and the conference defensive rookie of the year in 2017. Two years later he was named to the honour roll as a half back. With this year’s award, he has earned all-star honours at all three defensive back positions.

This season, he played eight games collecting 19 solo tackles and 11 assists for 24.5 tackles. He also had an interception and four pass breakups.

Earning his first honour is fourth-year half back Achaempong from Laval, Que. He was the second-leading tackler on the Stingers with 27 solos and 12 assists for 33.5 tackles. He had one interception and five breakups.

A third Stinger defensive back, Boubacar, was named to the team as well. He played seven games and had 22 solo tackles and nine assists for 26.5 tackles. The second-year cornerback from Rolla, Missouri also had two breakups.

On the other side of the ball Roy, a third-year quarterback from Donnacona, Que., had a big impact on the conference. He was the leading passer in the RSEQ, completing 163 of 265 passes for 2470 yards and 18 touchdowns. He led the league in attempts, completions, yards and touchdowns. He was also the fourth-leading rusher, carrying the ball 45 times for 318 yards and two touchdowns.

Finally, one of Roy’s favourite targets was Greaves, a rookie from Montreal, who made many highlight reel catches this season. He caught 27 passes for 605 yards and five touchdowns. He was fourth in the RSEQ for total receiving yards, second in touchdowns, first in average yards per catch at 22.4 and he had the longest play of the season with a 77-yard catch for TD on Oct. 23 in a 31-3 victory over the McGill Redbirds.

The RSEQ’s major awards will be announced in a press conference on Friday, Nov. 12.
