Know before you go to Stingers basketball openers

After more than 630 days without home games, the Concordia Stingers men's and women's basketball teams are excited to return to action and welcome fans back to the Concordia Gym.

The Stingers will host the Bishop’s Gaiters this Thursday with the women’s game scheduled for 6 p.m. and the men’s game scheduled for 8 p.m.

Although the teams are permitted to host games, please note that several things will be different from previous seasons as the Department of Recreation and Athletics must prioritize the health and safety of both the athletes and fans during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

There will be a very limited number of tickets for sale to the public, and these tickets are for single games only as opposed to the doubleheaders that were available in the past. The facility will be cleared between games.

Tickets must be purchased online in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door.

All fans will sit on the south side of the gymnasium. There will be no access to the north-side stands behind the benches.

Safety protocols will be strictly enforced. Blue surgical/procedural masks must be worn at all times. Proof of double vaccination and photo ID are required to enter the facility.

These are cashless events. The Stinger Café will only be open at halftime and will only offer beverages and snacks.

On Saturday, the teams are back on the court to battle the Laval Rouge et Or. The women’s game is set for 2 p.m. and the men will tipoff at 4 p.m. The same protocols will be in place.

As new information and rules come into effect, the department hopes to be able to make adjustments to events in the new year.
