3 Stingers named to U SPORTS football all-Canadian teams

Three members of the Concordia Stingers were on the honour roll when U SPORTS announced its all-Canadian teams at the annual Vanier Cup gala on Thursday evening in Quebec City.

Quarterback Olivier Roy and cornerback Ahmadou Boubacar were named to the second team, while receiver Jaylan Greaves was a first team all-Canadian.

A resident of Donnacona, Que., Roy started in all eight games and finished the regular season on top of the RSEQ in several statistical categories. The third-year student-athlete completed 163 of 265 passes (61.5 per cent) for 2470 yards and 18 touchdowns. He had the most attempts, completions, yards and touchdowns in the league. With 2470 passing yards, he was the only pivot in Quebec to break the 2000-yard mark.

The RSEQ MVP was also the fourth-leading rusher in the conference with 45 carries for 318 yards and two touchdowns.

He is just the fourth Concordia quarterback to earn all-Canadian recognition and he is the first since 2005 when Scott Syvret was on the honour roll. Dominik Goulet (1996) and Ron Aboud (1990) were the other honorees.

Boubacar made a significant impact in just his second season on the field with the Stingers. He joined the program in 2019 right out of high school in Rolla, Missouri.

This year, he played seven regular season games and had 22 solo tackles and nine assists for 26.5 tackles. He also had two breakups. In the conference semifinal, he picked up another solo tackle and three assists.

Greaves, a rookie from Montreal, closed out the 2021 regular season with very impressive receiving numbers. He caught 27 passes for 605 yards and five touchdowns in eight games.

He was third in the conference for total receiving yards, second in touchdowns, first in average yards per catch at 22.4 and he had the longest play of the season with a 77-yard catch for a TD on Oct. 23 in a 31-3 victory over the McGill Redbirds.
