Four veteran Stingers invited to CFL combines in March

Four Concordia Stinger football players have been selected to attend CFL combines where they will take part in physical testing and show off their skills in one-on-one drills in hopes of impressing the league’s coaches, general managers and scouts.

The CFL personnel will evaluate the prospects in preparation for the league’s annual draft which takes place May 3.

All-star defensive back Khadeem Pierre has been invited to the national combine in Toronto that takes place March 25-27.

Receiver Jacob Salvail, linebacker John Boachie and all-star defensive back Derek Acheampong will test at the Eastern Regional Combine at Scitech Sports Dome in Baie d’Urfé, Que. on March 11.

The top performers at the regional event will be invited to the national showcase.

The CFL introduced its regional combines in 2013. Since then, several Stingers have benefitted from the process. In 2019 defensive tackle Michael Sanelli was selected to attend the national showcase after a strong showing at the Ontario regional combine. He was drafted in the fifth round by the Montreal Alouettes and made their 2019 roster.

Fullback Tanner Green parlayed his regional experience into a national invite and has been with the Edmonton Eskimos, who drafted him in 2018, for four years.

Defensive back/returner Kris Robertson in 2013 and linebacker Travis Bent in 2014 also went from the regional combines to the national showcase to being drafted. Robertson was selected in the second round by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, while Bent was picked in the sixth round by the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

This will be the first time since 2019 that Canadian university football players can attend in-person combines. The CFL cancelled its events in 2020 and did its evaluations virtually in 2021.
