Your Gift Matters - Giving Tuesday is here

The Concordia Department of Recreation and Athletics is calling on alumni fans, friends and family to support their favorite Concordia Stingers program today as part of Giving Tuesday.

This day of giving was first observed in 2012 as a way to encourage people to make donations and to volunteer. It has become an annual tradition celebrated widely on the Tuesday following American Thanksgiving.

Your gift this year will help the department continue to grow and to deliver an exceptional experience to our Stingers.

“Our athletic leadership is devoted to ambitious goals and determined to provide winning conditions for our student-athletes to succeed in their sports and in their academic pursuits,” said D’Arcy Ryan, Director of Recreation and Athletics. “Delivering an elite Stinger experience is of the highest priority and takes a concerted effort from our coaches, staff and supporters.”

The department participated in Giving Tuesday for the first time in 2020. The Stingers raised $160,000 thanks to the generosity of 400 supporters. Last year, the total increased to $227,000 and more than 550 people contributed.

These funds have helped with financial awards, computers for study hall and specialized equipment like a shooting machine for basketball and smart technology in the men’s hockey locker room.

This year’s goal is to raise $200,000 that will go towards additional financial support, recovery resources and increased travel, particularly in training camps when teams want to measure themselves against tougher competition.

We’d like to thank some of our devoted alumni for offering lead gifts and getting Giving Tuesday off to a strong start:

  • Bob Beriault, Loyola College (football - $25,000)
  • George Lengvari, Loyola College (men’s basketball - $10,000)
  • Richard Mackay, Sir George Williams University (men’s basketball - $10,000)

We are also thrilled to have a matching gift for men’s hockey. An anonymous donor will match up to $50,000 in donations to head coach Marc-André Elément’s program.

The Department of Recreation and Athletics’ Giving Tuesday page is up and ready to accept your gifts. You can visit it  HERE

All gifts are eligible for charitable tax receipts.
