Florence Poirier, Julien Anctil - Athletes of the Week

Florence Poirier of the women's basketball team and Julien Anctil of the men's hockey team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 12, 2023.

Poirier, a rookie guard, scored the biggest basket of the weekend when she sank a three-pointer with 19 seconds left to give Concordia a 45-43 lead over the McGill Martlets on Saturday. The Stingers went on to win the game 47-43. Two days earlier she was the leading scorer on the team with 16 points in a tough 77-50 loss to the same Martlets team.

The 21-year-old from Quebec City is studying Leisure Studies at Concordia. Anctil, a rookie centre, was instrumental in helping the Stingers wrap up the regular season on a positive note. He had a goal and two assists in a 5-0 victory over the Queen’s Gaels last Friday night. Concordia finishes with a 19-7 win-loss record which is good for second place in the 10-team OUA East conference. The Stingers have a first-round bye in the playoffs.

The 21-year-old student-athlete from Blainville, Que. is enrolled in the Management program in the John Molson School of Business.
