Tenicha Gittens named to Canada's U23 women's national team staff

Concordia head coach Tenicha Gittens has been named to the staff of Canada’s U23 women’s national team that will compete at GLOBL JAM in Toronto this summer.

GLOBL JAM is an international basketball showcase that will feature women’s and men’s under-23 teams from around the world taking to the court at Toronto’s Mattamy Athletic Centre and broadcast nationally across Sportsnet platforms.

The women’s competition, which will run July 12-16, will see Canada face the United States (University of Louisville), Puerto Rico and the African Continent U23 Women’s Select Team in round-robin action before the top two teams face off for gold on July 16.

Gittens will serve as an assistant coach with Team Canada. It will be her first coaching assignment with the national program.

She was hired by Concordia in 2015 and has been instrumental in developing players, including two-time all-Canadian Myriam Leclerc, and in mentoring several young coaches.

In 2019, Gittens led the Stingers to their first appearance at the U Sports national championship in 20 years. She was named the RSEQ Coach of the Year in 2021-22.
