The Concordia Stingers football team opened the 2025 regular season on Saturday, Aug. 23, with a 41-14 setback against the Montréal Carabins.
Concordia struck first at the nine-minute mark of the opening quarter when the Carabins conceded a safety to give the Stingers a 2-0 lead. Montréal responded with three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 22-4 advantage into halftime.
The Stingers found the end zone late in the game on an 87-yard connection between quarterback Xavier Tremblay and third-year receiver Oriola Poirier—the team’s first touchdown of the season.
Despite the final score, the game was more competitive than the scoreboard suggested. Concordia posted 334 yards of total offense, nearly matching Montréal’s 344.
Tremblay completed 22 of 35 passes for 326 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception. Poirier led all receivers with 110 yards and a touchdown on just three catches, averaging an impressive 36.7 yards per reception.
Rookie punter Nathan Pronovost made a strong debut, averaging 44.4 yards on eight punts. Defensively, fifth-year linebacker William Castonguay paced the Stingers with six tackles.
The Stingers now head into a bye week before returning to action on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. for their home opener against McGill. Fans are encouraged to take part in the annual White Out Game by wearing white to match the Stingers’ jerseys. Special edition White Out t-shirts will be available for purchase at the game.
