The Concordia Stingers opened their home schedule with a statement win, defeating the McGill Redbirds 27–19 in front of a lively crowd at Concordia Stadium.
The Stingers set the tone early with a 25-yard field goal from Dante Magliocco and added a rouge to take the lead. After McGill responded with a field goal, Concordia carried an 11–3 advantage into the second quarter after a 63-yard punt return touchdown by Coslens Clairveaux.
While the offense slowed through the middle of the game, the Stingers exploded in the fourth. Quarterback Xavier Tremblay delivered a 45-yard touchdown strike before adding a nine-yard rushing score to put the game out of reach. Special teams also played a critical role, with Concordia’s punting and field position control proving decisive.
Tremblay finished with 198 passing yards, one touchdown through the air, and one on the ground. Franck Tchembe finished with 69 rushing yards to balance the attack. On defense and special teams, the Stingers consistently kept McGill under pressure and capitalized on mistakes.
Clairveaux was named RSEQ Defensive Player of the Week after his performance versus McGill, where in addition to his punt return touchdown, he also came down with the game-clinching interception in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
The Stingers will hit the road on Friday, Sept. 12 to take on Sherbrooke. They'll be back at home on Sept. 20 for the Shrine Bowl.
