Sammy Okpro gets CFL invite

Sammy Okpro, the Concordia Stingers three-time all-Canadian defensive halfback, has been invited to participate in the 2008 Canadian Football League Evaluation Camp in Toronto March 14-16.

The Pierrefonds, Que. native is among 54 of Canada’s top CFL prospects who will showcase their skills at the camp. General managers, coaches and scouts from all the CFL teams will be in attendance, evaluating talent for the 2008 CFL Canadian draft on April 30.

In 2007, Okpro played in seven regular season games, picking up 30 solos tackles and 13 assists. He also had three pass breakups and one interception. He was the Stingers' MVP, a QSSF all-star and a CIS all-Canadian. He was also a participant at the 2007 East-West Bowl Game.

Okpro played four seasons with the Stingers, earning three all-star and three all-Canadian honors. He is the the only football player in Concordia’s 33-year history to earn three all-Canadian honors.

Prior to entering university, Okpro played in the North Shore Football League, at Vanier College and was a member of Team Canada in 2003 and 2004.

In Toronto, Okpro will undergo a series of tests and interviews – both on-field and off-field.
