2008 Stinger football schedule unveiled

The Concordia Stingers will welcome the Laval Rouge et Or at their annual Homecoming/Hall of Fame Game on Saturday, Sept. 20 as part of their 2008 football schedule which was released by the Quebec University Football League last week.

In fact, the Stingers will play back-to-back games with their accomplished rivals. Concordia will travel to Ste. Foy, Que. for a rematch Sunday, Sept. 28.

“I think it’s a great schedule. There are a lot of dynamic opponents coming to Concordia stadium,” says veteran quarterback Rob Mackay. “Any time you can play Laval at home is a bonus. It’s a fierce rivalry and it will be a great show for all our fans. I guarantee it will be an exciting fall.”

The Stingers will enjoy a strong home game schedule, beginning with the season opener versus the surging Bishop’s Gaiters. The tradition of hosting the opener on Friday night continues with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sept. 5.

On Thanksgiving Saturday, the Stingers will host the Mount Allison Mounties from the Atlantic University Sport conference and they wrap up the home schedule with the pesky Sherbrooke Vert et Or on Oct. 25.

Other games on the road include a trip to McGill to the play the Redmen for the Shaughnessy Cup on Sept. 12, at Université de Montréal on Oct. 4 and at Bishop’s on Oct. 19.

The league semifinals are scheduled for Nov. 1 and the Dunsmore Cup will take place Nov. 8.
