McGrath, Stingers add 6 to football roster

Head coach Gerry McGrath is pleased to announce six players have joined the Concordia Stingers football program. They will attend classes and participate in all football activities effective immediately.

On offence, McGrath welcomes running back Jerome Hofferden (South Dakota Tech), quarterback Jason Hogan (St. Leonard Cougars), wide receiver Scott Mironowicz (John Abbott College) and quarterback Terrance Morsink (John Abbott College).

Suiting up on defence are defensive lineman James Clement (John Abbott College) and linebacker Marc-André Lewis (Collège Édouard-Montpetit).

Hofferden, who comes out of the Mississauga Warriors program, went to South Dakota Tech in 2005 where he rushed for 888 yards in nine games and was named a Dakota Athletic Conference first team all-star. He has since returned to Canada and trained with the University of Manitoba.

Hogan is a two-time Ontario Football Conference all-star at the quarterback position. He was the top passer in the OFC last season and a three-time Offensive Player of the Week. He has also suited up for les Phénix du Collège André Grasset and spent one season running the Laval Rouge et Or scout team.

Mironowicz is a two-time CEGEP AA all-star and was named the conference’s outstanding offensive player in 2007. He was also a member of Quebec’s U19 entry in the 2007 Canada Cup. In his final season with the Islanders, he caught 47 balls for 555 yards and four touchdowns. Mironowicz is also a great returner and will likely make his presence known on special teams.

Morsink, a six-foot-two, 180-pounder, enjoyed two strong seasons with the John Abbott Islanders. He threw for almost 3,000 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2007 and 2008 combined. His favorite target was Mironowicz.

Clement arrives at Concordia with a long list of accomplishments. In 2008, he was an Islander team captain and received a CEGEP AA academic award. In 2007, he was a conference all-star. The six-foot-two, 275-pound lineman had 23 solo tackles, 23 assists and three sacks in 10 games last season.

Lewis enjoyed a solid career at Édouard-Monpetit where he wrapped up his career with 17 solos tackles, 23 assists and four sacks. The five-foot-11, 210-pound linebacker  was a team captain with the Lynx in 2008.
