2009 Stinger football schedule unveiled

The Concordia Stingers will open the 2009 Quebec University Football League season with a trip to Quebec City to play the Laval Rouge et Or in a rematch of last year’s conference championship.

The game slated for Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. will give Concordia a chance to measure themselves against the best. The Rouge et Or won the 2008 national championship after narrowly escaping the Stingers who came close to pulling off an upset victory in the Dunsmore Cup game last November. Concordia eventually succumbed 28-17.

The Stingers host the Montréal Carabins, another tough opponent, in their home opener on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. Another cross-town rival will also visit Concordia stadium next fall. The Stingers host the McGill Redmen in the annual Shaughnessy Cup game on Oct. 24.

Rounding out the home schedule are games versus the St. Francis Xavier X-Men on Sept. 26 and the Sherbrooke Vert et Or on Oct. 3.
