Six football players sign on with Stingers

The Concordia Stingers football coaching staff is pleased to announce six athletes have signed letters of intent (LOI) and will join the team at training camp in August.

On offence the Stingers are pleased to welcome running back Raul Thompson from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School in Mississauga, Ont. He checks in at five foot 11 and 185 pounds. He is respected for his speed. He was a bronze medallist in the 100-metre race at the Ontario high school tracks finals last year.

Two linemen will also join the unit – centre Chris Nagy out of Markham, Ont. and Dan Lavinskas who played at Champlain College and Loyola High School.

On defence, the Stingers will bolster their line with the addition of tackle Mike Sutton from St. Ignatius High School in Mississauga, Ont. and end Michael Livingston, a two-time Toronto City all-star from Northern Secondary School.

Rounding out the new group of signings is defensive back Kris Robertson from St. Mary's Catholic Secondary School in Pickering, Ont. He was a member of Team Ontario at Canada Cup in Sherbrooke last summer.

"This is arguably one of the best recruiting classes we've had," said defensive co-ordinator Warren Craney.

LOI is a new CIS initiative designed to reduce and limit the recruiting pressures on prospective student-athletes, to educate prospective student-athletes on the most applicable CIS regulations and to assist coaches in their recruiting efforts.
