The Concordia Stingers and the Sherbrooke Vert et Or will vie for two important points in the standings at the 23rd annual Shrine Bowl football game on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Concordia stadium.
While both teams can improve their playoff prospects with a victory, there’s another aspect to the game. The athletes will be playing for the children at the Shriners Hospital. Representatives from both teams visited the hospital last Wednesday.
“It puts things in perspective,” said Concordia quarterback Rob Mackay. “It’s a honor to represent them in this game.”
To date the annual game has raised more than $700,000 for the Montreal-based hospital which serves as a short term, acute care centre providing elective pediatric orthopedic health care.
In Quebec conference standings, Concordia has an 0-4 win-loss record and needs a victory to keep its playoff hopes alive. Sherbrooke has a 2-2 record and is tied in third place with the McGill Redmen.
The teams met on Sept. 19 in Sherbrooke with the Vert et Or taking the victory 24-14.
