Quarterback Rob Mackay threw four touchdown passes to lead the Concordia Stingers to a 39-5 victory over the Acadia Axemen in Wolfville, N.S. on Saturday afternoon.
The Port Dover, Ont. native completed 19 of 33 passes for 245 yards on the day. He hit Cory Watson on a 42-yard pass at 2:58 of the second quarter to give Concordia a 16-0 lead and to break open the game. He followed that up with TD strikes to Eli Aramouni (18 yards) and Liam Mahoney (23 yards), giving Concordia a 29-0 lead at halftime. Mackay connected with Mahoney again on a 13-yard touchdown play nine minutes into the third quarter.
Kicker Rene Paredes connected on three of five field goals to round out the scoring. He was good from nine, 15 and 33 yards.
Overall the Concordia offence rolled up 20 first downs and 430 yards. The Stinger defence held Acadia to 11 first downs and 158 yards of offence.
The top tackler on the Stingers was middle linebacker Cory Greenwood with seven solos and an assist.
Concordia’s win-loss record improves to 2-4. Acadia falls to 1-5. The Stingers will play host to the 3-3 McGill Redmen next Saturday. The teams will battle for Shaughnessy Cup honors at Concordia stadium. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
