Quarterback Tyler Pritty, one of the top recruits from the Class of 2010, has signed a letter of intent and committed to the Concordia Stingers football program.
In 2009 Pritty, 17, played for the Markham District High School Marauders. He passed for more than 2,100 yards and 24 touchdowns in his final season of high school football. He led the Marauders to a Metro Bowl championship. He completed 15 of 20 passes for 265 yards and two TDs to lead his team to a 19-0 victory over Birchmont Park High School. Pritty was named the game MVP.
The Markham, Ont. native also won Metro Bowl titles with St. Michael’s College in 2007 and 2008. He is the only player in Metro Bowl history (28 years) to win three championships.
“I’m really happy,” said Stinger head coach Gerry McGrath. “We are now solidified at the quarterback position for the next five years. Tyler is very polished and has been well coached. He’s a great student of the game. He eats, sleeps and breathes football. He loves the strategic part of the game. It’s going to be a lot of fun to spend time with him.”
Many feel Pritty was the top Canadian quarterback available in 2010 if not the top recruit overall. Articles in Toronto-area newspapers mention more than 35 schools in Canada and the U.S. have been pursuing Pritty who checks in at six foot one, 195 pounds.
Since word of his signing started circulating, McGrath’s phone has been ringing off the hook with people offering congratulations. He has also heard from several potential recruits who want to follow Pritty to Concordia where they can play with a proven leader and winner.
