The Concordia University football program is pleased to announce Raul Thompson, a running back/kick returner from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School, has signed a CIS Letter of Intent and will suit up for the Stingers in 2010.
“He’s a smart, intelligent player,” says Concordia recruiting co-ordinator Brad Collinson. “He brings something to the team we need – speed. There’s a lot of upside for us. He’s an athlete that’s going to push right away.”
The 18 year old earns a lot of respect for his speed. He has been clocked at 4.35 in the 40-yard dash.
Thompson, a native of Mississauga, Ont., was named to the Toronto Star’s 2009 all-star team celebrating the accomplishments of 30 high school players from 23 teams selected from among almost 200 schools throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
In the summer Thompson, who checks in at five foot 10 and 190 pounds, suits up for the Mississauga Warriors of the Ontario Varsity Football League. He was the Warriors’ MVP in 2009.
Thompson originally planned to attend Concordia University in 2009 but decided to return to high school for an extra year, hoping to attract NCAA scholarship offers.
“I think it says a lot about our program,” says Collinson. “We were his first choice for a CIS program two years in a row. We think really highly of him. I’m really looking forward to having him here.”
