Linebacker Cory Greenwood, the top-rated CIS prospect for the upcoming draft, will lead a group of three Concordia Stingers at the CFL Evaluation Camp this weekend in Toronto.
The Kingston, Ont. native was the President’s Trophy recipient as the outstanding defensive player in Canadian university football last season. He has been in New Jersey training at the Parisi Speed School in preparation for E-Camp and NFL workouts.
Heading into the May 2 draft Greenwood is ranked second overall by the CFL Scouting Bureau.
Joining him at E-Camp will be slotback Cory Watson and offensive lineman Kristian Matte – both 2009 second team all-Canadians.
Watson enjoyed a record setting year with the Stingers. He now owns school records for receptions and receiving yards. The Dollard des Ormeaux, Que. resident caught 52 balls for 821 yards in eight games. He is rated sixth for the draft by the scouting bureau.
Matte of St. Hubert, Que. can play guard or tackle. His stock has been rising lately. He has attracted some NFL interest from the Houston Texans. He recently completed an intense training regime under the watchful eye Dr. Ping, his agent and a fitness guru.
Coaches and staff from all eight CFL clubs as well as more than 50 of Canada's top university football players are expected to attend E-Camp.
Players arrive in Toronto on Friday and begin with team interviews. Other activities include medicals, bench press, vertical standing jump, flexibility tests, 40-yard dash and more. Football drills like one-on-ones will take place at Varsity Centre at the University of Toronto. E-Camp wraps up Sunday afternoon.
