The Concordia Stingers football game scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. at Concordia Stadium has been cancelled.
The Stingers were scheduled to face their cross-town rivals, the McGill Redmen. However, McGill University announced Oct. 18 that it had cancelled the remainder of its institution's varsity football season following an investigation into a complaint about inappropriate behaviour during the football team's initiation activities.
At the time, the Redmen had two games remaining on the schedule - a home game versus the Laval Rouge et Or on Oct. 22 and a road game at Concordia on Oct. 29.
In accordance with QSSF rules both Concordia and Laval receive 6-0 victories for the cancelled games. The Stingers will finish the season in third place in the Quebec conference with a 6-2 win-loss record.
Coach Gerry McGrath and his charges will next see action on Saturday, Nov. 4 in the conference semifinals. The Stingers eagerly await the outcome of the Montreal Carabins-Laval game this Saturday to see where they will play. The Carabins must win by 13 points to secure first place in the Quebec conference and avoid the Stingers in the semifinals. A loss or a narrow victory will see Montreal finish in second place and host third-place Concordia.
The Concordia University Department of Recreation and Athletics wishes to inform anyone who possesses a ticket to the Oct. 29 game that they may redeem it for admission to any Stingers home basketball or hockey game (excluding tournaments) before February 1, 2006. In addition, the department will offer a free hot dog and soft drink to anyone who takes advantage of this offer.
