The Concordia Stingers find themselves in a must-win situation as they host the top ranked Laval Rouge et Or in the final weekend of play in the Quebec university football league.
There are three conference games scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m., and there are eight possible outcomes for the final league standings.
Despite the many possibilities, it is clear the Stingers must upset the undefeated Rouge et Or to get a playoff spot. The team also needs a little help in the form of a loss by either the Sherbrooke Vert & Or or the Bishop’s Gaiters.
“I’m not to worried about the scenarios,” says veteran receiver Dan Rodrigues. “The only thing we control is our game and we have to go out there and win. We have to play our best game of the season. If everyone does their job, we will win. We can’t make mistakes. Laval is too good at capitalizing on other teams’ errors.”
Concordia goes into the game with a 4-4 win-loss record. Laval boasts an 8-0 record. The outcome of the game does not affect the Rouge et Or who have first place locked up.
The teams met once this season with Laval winning 46-10 on Oct. 3.
This weekend, the Stingers are teaming up with Reebok, the official outfitter of the Concordia football team, to help fight breast cancer. The Concordia department of recreation and athletics and Reebok will each donate $1 from every adult ticket sold for the game. Proceeds will go to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Selected players will wear Pink Ribbon footwear and gloves, courtesy of Reebok. The Stingers will introduce their new Reebok uniforms for this occasion.
