Two all-Canadian awards for football Stingers

Two members of the Concordia Stingers football program were named to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) second all-Canadian team at a gala dinner in Quebec City last Thursday night.

Slotback Liam Mahoney, a fourth-year player from Lachine, Que., and offensive tackle Anthony Barrette, a Verdun, Que. native who is also in his fourth season, made the honor roll.

Both were all-stars in the Quebec University Football League.

Mahoney was the leading receiver on the Stingers with 49 catches for 609 yards and six touchdowns. He was third in the Quebec conference in yards and first in touchdowns scored.

This is Mahoney’s first all-Canadian honor. However, he received national recognition when he named was CIS Rookie of the Year in 2007.

Barrette also earns his first all-Canadian award in four seasons with the Stingers.

Both Mahoney and Barrette are eligible for the CFL draft in the spring of 2011 and have garnered a lot of attention from the professional scouts.
