Wide receiver Mike Renaud caught six passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns to lead the No. 8-ranked Concordia Stingers to 31-17 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters before 2478 Homecoming fans in Lennoxville, Que. on Saturday afternoon.
Renaud's first score came on a 30-yard pass from quarterback Scott Syvret at 9:19 of the first quarter. His second touchdown came at 3:52 of the second quarter and was a 26-yard strike.
Syvret completed 22 of 32 passes for 335 yards and three touchdowns in three quarters of play. His third major was a five-yard pass to Nick Scissons at 14:35 of the second quarter. Wideout Dan Mott also benefited from Syvret's precision passing, catching nine passes for 122 yards. Mott continues to lead the country in receiving with 32 receptions this season.
A solid effort from the offensive line - with Bren Buckley and Connor Smith leading the way - gave Syvret a lot of time to find his receivers.
Defensively, middle linebacker Patrick Donovan had another outstanding performance. He recorded 11 solos and two assists for a total of 12 tackles. He is the second leading tackler in the CIS with 39 tackles in four games. All-star cornerback Moe Sidibe, who is projected to be a top pick in the 2006 CFL entry draft, hauled in two interceptions.
The Stingers now have a 4-0 win-loss record, while the Gaiters fall to 0-4.
