Brandon Caesar named to football coaching staff

Head coach Gerry McGrath is pleased to announce Brandon Caesar has joined the Concordia Stingers football coaching staff, taking on responsibilities for running backs and strength and conditioning.

“I’m thrilled because Brandon is a great role model,” said McGrath. “He came out of the Sun Youth football program and worked hard to get a scholarship to the University of Colorado. He’s a great athlete, a very knowledgeable football coach and a very caring and mature young man.”

Caesar was an exceptional tailback with Sun Youth. From there he went to Avon Old Farms Prep School in Avon, Conn. for three years. As a senior he earned all-New England honors and was ranked as the No. 53 high school running back in the U.S. His final year, he carried the ball 162 times for 1236 yards and 12 touchdowns.

In 2001, Caesar was on Team Canada for the NFL Global Junior Championship. Between his Team Canada accomplishments and his performance at Avon Old Farms, his reputation as a premier running back was growing. There are pages on the Web that refer to Caesar as “the best running back to ever come out of Canada.”

At prep school, he drew the attention of the University of Colorado. He was part of the Buffaloes football program from 2002-’06. Injuries seriously hampered his college career, but the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL liked what they saw and signed him as a free agent in 2006.

Caesar eventually returned to Montreal and set up a business. He also took up coaching and was in charge of running backs at Vanier College in 2009 and 2010.

“He did a great job at Vanier,” McGrath said. “He’s taken a lot of young players under his wings and guided them in football and off the field.”
