Led by an exceptional defensive effort, the Laval Rouge et Or rolled over the Concordia Stingers 37-4 at Stade Telus in Ste. Foy, Que. on Sunday afternoon in Quebec university football action.
Despite the cold and high winds, the Laval defence was in fine form, holding the Stingers to four first downs and a total offence of 25 yards. The Rouge et Or also sacked Concordia quarterback Reid Quest six times.
Concordia’s four points came on two singles from Keegan Treloar and a safety – all scored in the first six minutes of the game.
At halftime Laval led 15-4, and neither offensive had put a point on the board. The Rouge et Or collected four safeties and a defensive touchdown when lineman Arnaud Gascon-Nadon took an interception back 19 yards to the end zone.
In the second half Concordia was kept off the scoreboard while Laval scored three touchdowns. Sébastien Levesque scored on a one-yard run in the third quarter. In the final frame Patrick Lavoie caught a 14-yard pass for a TD and Christian Normand scored a major on a 10-yard run.
Laval, ranked No. 1 in the CIS, has a perfect 5-0 win-loss record.
The Stingers’ win-loss record falls to 2-3. Concordia turns its attention to the McGill Redmen and the 25th annual Shrine Bowl which takes place Saturday at 1 p.m. at Concordia stadium.
