Almost everything was even in the football game between the Concordia Stingers and the No. 4-ranked Sherbrooke Vert & Or on Saturday night. Everything except turnovers.
The Vert & Or capitalized on three of Concordia’s four turnovers, collecting 13 points on two field goals and a touchdown, to help win the game 31-11 before a crowd of 3,719 in Sherbrooke.
Over the course of the night, Sherbrooke did not turn over the ball.
Led by quarterback Jérémi Doyon-Roch, the Vert & Or rolled up 16 first downs and a net offence of 269 yards.
The Stingers offence was also good for 16 first downs and 286 net yards. Concordia’s biggest threat was running back Raul Thompson who carried the ball 13 times for 80 yards.
Time of possession was 30:02 to 29:58 in Sherbrooke’s favour.
Concordia’s scoring came on a one-yard TD run by quarterback Reid Quest with 5:58 left in the first quarter. The major finished off a drive that featured Quest scampering 52 yards to bring his team down to the Sherbrooke 23-yard line. Keegan Treloar was good on the convert.
The Vert & Or gave up two safeties to round out the scoring for Concordia.
Next week, the Stingers host the Montréal Carabins (4-3) on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is 1 p.m. at Concordia stadium.
