Kadeem Vaillancourt, a rookie defensive back with the Concordia Stingers, has been selected to participate in the International Federation of American Football’s (IFAF) third annual International Bowl on Feb. 1 in Austin, Texas.
Formerly known as USA vs. The World, the game features an international roster of players facing an American under-19 national team. The latter is composed of current high school seniors (class of 2012). Both teams will field a 50-player roster for the game at the Palace Round Rock ISD Stadium in Austin.
“It’s a great acknowledgement of Kadeem’s skills,” said Concordia head coach Gerry McGrath. “He’s a pretty special player. He is a serious professional prospect. He has all the tools. He has great size, strength and speed. He is competitive and hard working.”
The six-foot-one, 195-pound Ottawa native played in all nine of Concordia’s Quebec conference games, picking up 14 solo tackles, seven assists and one interception.
Vaillancourt has eight years of football experience, including time with the Ottawa Sooners (CJFL), the Cumberland Panthers (OVFL) and with St. Mark Catholic High School.
It is the third year this event has been organized and the third time a member of the Stingers has been named to the World Team. Christian Walcott, a defensive halfback/linebacker from Markham, Ont., took part in the inaugural contest in January 2010. Defensive tackle Shaquille Armstrong participated in the 2011 event.
At Concordia, Vaillancourt, 19, is currently studying Environmental Science.
