Bobblehead giveaway at football opener

The Concordia Stingers football team kicks off its 2005 home opener with a big Buzz on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Bishop's Gaiters come to town.

To mark the occasion, 1000 Buzz (King of Sting) bobbleheads, modeled after the Stingers' beloved mascot, will be given away. The popular limited edition collector's items will be distributed at halftime. Every ticket holder has a random chance of winning a bobblehead.

The King of Sting is the third bobblehead promotion launched by the Concordia Stingers. The first Buzz figurines were handed out at the launch of Concordia's new fields and stadium in September 2003.

Also adding to the electric atmosphere will be a hot tub for some lucky students to enjoy, the Domino Olympics, contests and introductions of the Concordia soccer and rugby teams.

There's also a family area for people with young children. A face painter will be setup in the area. There will be a 9x9-foot bouncing castle. Stinger athletes will run an arts and crafts tables. Of course, Buzz will spend a lot of time visiting the children.

The Stingers should provide the most excitement. Concordia is ranked No. 10 in Canadian Interuniversity Sport, while Bishop's is not ranked.

Concordia defeated the McGill Redmen 33-25 in their first game of the season last Thursday, while the Gaiters lost a tough battle 38-19 to the Vert et Or in Sherbrooke.

Game time is 1 p.m. Concordia stadium is located at 7200 Sherbrooke St. W., in NDG. Tickets are available at the door.
