Concordia cagers upset Martlets, lock up playoff spot

The Concordia Stingers women’s basketball team pulled off a big victory on Saturday at Concordia gym in Montreal, beating the first-place McGill Martlets 60-49.

The win clinches a playoff spot for the Stingers who can finish anywhere from first to third in the five-team Quebec conference, depending on the outcome of the last weekend of play. Concordia currently sits in second place with an 8-6 win-loss record.

All-star guard Kaylah Barrett was exceptional once again. She led all scorers in the game with 17 points. She also added six rebounds and three assists. Ashley Clarke checked in with 12 points.

McGill’s leading scorer was Françoise Charest with 12 points.

The Stingers wrap up regular season play next week with two games. Concordia hosts UQAM on Friday at 6 p.m. and then travels to the Laval to face the Rouge et Or on Saturday at 6 p.m.
