3 Stingers selected for East-West Bowl

Three members of the Concordia Stingers football team will compete in the 10th annual East West Bowl on May 12 at TD Waterhouse Stadium on the campus of Western University in London, Ont.

The annual football game is designed to showcase Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) players who are eligible for the 2013 Canadian Football League draft.

The game is the highlight of a week of activities that includes physical testing and training in front of CFL coaches and scouts. There’s also a coaching clinic and a banquet.

Slotback Michael Harrington, defensive back Nathan Taylor and defensive back/returner Kris Robertson will play for the East team.

A LaSalle, Que. native, Harrington caught 31 passes for 361 yards and one touchdown in nine Quebec conference games last year.

Taylor, also from LaSalle, Que., had 12 solo tackles and four assists. He is the Stingers’ returner on field goal attempts and last year he brought one back 120 yards for a touchdown.

Robertson is a CIS first team all-Canadian return specialist. In 2011 he returned 57 punts for 597 yards including a pair of touchdowns, while adding another 440 yards on 18 kickoff returns.

The Pickering, Ont. native, who also plays defensive halfback, had two interceptions that he returned for a total of 47 yards, including a 38-yard return for a TD. He had 1084 all-purpose yards this season.

The East team is comprised of student-athletes representing schools from the Atlantic and Quebec conferences, as well as from Queen's, Ottawa and Toronto. The West squad is made up of players from Canada West and from the remaining Ontario universities.

The East prevailed 34-27 in overtime in 2011 to improve its all-time win-loss record to 3-6 in the series.
