The Concordia Stingers football team opens its season at home tomorrow versus the Bishop’s Gaiters and it’s all ready a must-win game.
The RSEQ university football conference will be a dog-fight from Day 1. Every game is important; any misstep can cost a playoff spot.
The Stingers should be considered slight favorites over the Gaiters. Over the last five seasons, Concordia has won five of eight matchups and averaged 25.8 points for and 21.8 against.
In the only meeting last year, the Stingers defeated the Gaiters 25-18 in Lennoxville, Que. All the key players in that game will be in uniform tomorrow.
Watch for Concordia wide receiver Sanchez Deschamps, who caught eight passes for 68 yards and a touchdown, and all-Canadian returner Kris Robertson who took a punt back 56 yards for a major.
On the other side of the ball Stinger star linebacker Max Caron had 10.5 tackles. He also forced a fumble and blocked a punt.
For the Gaiters, one the biggest threats is quarterback Jordan Heather. In the last matchup he completed 25 of 45 passes for 327 yards. He threw one interception and two touchdowns. His favorite target was Alexander Fox who had six receptions for 128 yards and a major.
Kickoff is 1 p.m. Concordia Stadium is located at 7200 Sherbrooke St. W. You can also follow the action on TSN Radio 990 with Elliott Price and Liam Mahoney calling the game and on the Concordia webcast at stingers.ca.
