The Concordia Stingers suffered a fourth quarter collapse that cost them any chance of a comeback or victory versus the Carabins at Université de Montréal Friday night.
Four late scores gave Montréal a 48-10 victory before a capacity crowd of 5,100 at the Carabins’ field.
Despite a good battle in the first 50 minutes of play, the Stingers found themselves trailing 20-10. In the last few minutes Montreal struck for four quick touchdowns, three on the run and one on a passing play, and walked away with a lopsided victory.
Stingers quarterback Reid Quest battled immense pressure throughout the game but managed to completed 15 of 23 passes for 186 yards one touchdown and an interception. He was sacked 10 times.
The pivot’s favorite target was Sanchez Deschamps who caught five passes for 64 yards. Quest’s only touchdown was a 53-yard strike to Jamal Henry in the first quarter.
The next game for the Stingers is Saturday, Sept. 15 against the St. Francis Xavier X-Men in Antigonish, N.S. The teams met in Montreal a year ago with Concordia coming out on top 55-9.
