Concordia head coach Gerry McGrath is pleased to announce two top offensive linemen from Quebec cégeps have signed letters of intent and will join the Stingers football program in August.
Cedric Vinet, who played with the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars, and Sacha Jacimovic from the Spartiates du Vieux-Montréal are the newest members of the Stingers.
“These are two very good offensive linemen,” said McGrath. “They will make us better right away. We wanted to add some size and maturity to our o-line and with these two student-athletes we are headed in the right direction.”
Vinet checks in at six foot five inches and weighs 300 pounds. He attended Vermont Academy, where he was an Evergreen League all-star in 2011, before joining the Cégep ranks in 2012. The Mont St. Hilaire, Que. native put a lot of thought into choosing a university.
“I looked at the pros and cons of all the schools,” he explained. “The best decision for me was Concordia both academically and football-wise. I’m looking forward to being coached by Bryan Chiu and coach McGrath.”
Jacimovic is the first player in a couple of years to join the Stingers from Vieux-Montréal. The LaSalle, Que. native is six foot two and he also weighs 300 pounds
McGrath expects to announce several more LOI signings in the coming weeks.
“So far recruiting is going very well,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of student-athletes at the university for visits and they are excited about playing here.”
