Head coach Gerry McGrath is pleased to announce defensive back Nicolas Picard has signed a letter of intent (LOI) and will start his university football career with the Concordia Stingers at training camp in August.
A native of Quebec City, Picard was an all-star in 2011 and 2012 with CEGEP de la Pocatière in the RSEQ Division 3 Nord Est conference.
In 2012, the five-foot-11, 195-pound safety was the second-leading tackler in the division. He had 39 solo tackles, 19 assists and four interceptions.
“He’s a high quality player,” McGrath said. “He’s an all-star player and we expect him to play right away. He’s a great athlete, he has good feet, he runs well and he hawks the ball well.”
“He’s a great tackler,” adds defensive co-ordinator Luc Pelland. “He’s very intelligent and mature. We’re looking for him to contribute from the get-go.”
Nicolas’ brother is well-known in the Quebec university league. Mathieu played out his career as a receiver with the Laval Rouge et Or.
