Women's basketball award presentations tonight

Conference MVP Kaylah Barrett and several other members of the Concordia women’s basketball team will receive their RSEQ awards and all-star certificates tonight before tipoff at the semifinal game between the Stingers and the UQAM Citadins.

Barrett, a third-year guard from Brampton, Ont., earned her second straight MVP honor. Playing 28.9 minutes a game, she averaged 15.2 points a contest which was the second best total in the conference. She was also second in free throw percentage (79.6) and first in steals (2.3 per game). As well, she earned her third consecutive first team all-star honor.

Marilyse Roy-Viau, a first-year forward from Mirabel, Que., was named to the second all-star team and the all-rookie team. Playing 28.8 minutes a game, she had an average of 13.6 points and 6.4 rebounds.

Tamara Pinard-Devos, a guard from Sorel-Tracey, Que., was also named to the all-rookie team. Coming off the bench she averaged 21.5 minutes of playing time and 3.6 points a game.

Finally, Keith Pruden was named the RSEQ Coach of the Year. He directed a young Stingers team to an 11-5 win-loss record and a second-place finish. The team spent five weeks in the CIS Top 10, peaking at the No. 8 spot. Concordia was the only Quebec team to crack the Top 10 all season.

The presentations are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
