Rookie Clark Green punted his way into the RSEQ and Concordia record books when he connected on a 90-yarder during the Concordia Stingers 40-18 loss to the Bishop’s Gaiters in Lennoxville, Que., on Saturday afternoon.
At the end of the first series of plays in the fourth quarter, Clark punted from the Stingers’ 19-yard line. An exceptional kick followed by a great bounce and the Gaiters ended up fielding the ball at their own one-yard line.
The longest punt on the RSEQ record books was 88 yards by Concordia’s Dimitri Manolopoulos. It came on Nov. 4, 1995 in a playoff game against the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
The longest punt in regular season action dates back to Oct. 20, 1984 and the Ontario-Quebec Intercollegiate Football Conference when Jeff Morris of the Carleton Ravens sent a punt sailing 85 yards against the Gee-Gees.
At 90 yards, Green’s punt ranks No. 10 overall in the CIS record book.
Otherwise it was a rough day for the Stingers who lost their fourth straight game. Concordia will look to get its first win of the season next Saturday when they host the McGill Redmen in the annual Shrine Bowl game. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
