Top 10 showdown to open women's tournament

The annual Concordia-Adidas women’s basketball tournament will start with a clash between two of the CIS’s top teams - the No. 8-ranked Concordia Stingers and the No. 9-ranked Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks - on Dec. 28 at 8 p.m. at Concordia Gym.

The Stingers are the defending tournament champions having defeated the No. 1-ranked Windsor Lancers and the No. 5-ranked Carleton Ravens to win the 2012 title.

Concordia has enjoyed a strong showing in the first half of this year, posting an 8-4 win-loss record in preseason and winning the Carleton Ravens tournament in October.

The team currently has a 2-2 record in Quebec conference play.

Wilfrid Laurier boasts a 13-5 overall record, including a 9-1 run in the OUA West conference. The Golden Hawks are in a three-way tie for first place with the Western Mustangs and the Windsor Lancers.

The Memorial Sea-Hawks and the Bishop’s Gaiters open the action with a 4 p.m. game on Dec. 28, followed by the Queen’s Gaels versus the Laval Rouge et Or at 6 p.m.

The six-team tournament continues Dec. 29 when Concordia battles Queen’s in the last game of the day at 8 p.m. and Dec. 30 when the Stingers wrap up the action with a match against Memorial at 3 p.m.
